Only solution is to use a different video format not subject to such limitations. That is why nothing can or will be done about it as revocation of such support is more detrimental than the feature limitations. The crux is when WMV support was added, it was one of the stipulated requirements for being properly licensed to be able to playback such formats that things like cross-fading could not be done as everything has to go through controlled decoding playback steps - which breaks cross-fading and a few other things with other files. Other players may not have that limitation or may just be skirting around it by being small enough to do so. WMV cannot fade-in because it's not handled in the same way to allow for it to work that way within Winamp. It doesn't work between files on a playlist.
